We can love so deep that it hurts to the very core
We can mourn and pray and beg God and our loved one, to turn from their actions
We want them to listen to things that we know work for those who “actually” use them
But, the truth is
You cannot make them change or do anything different
Just like the old saying, “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink”
However,
What we can and must do for our own sanity is:
Love them with unconditional love
Lift them up in prayer
Share what you feel led to give them to consider
Be there when they are ready for help or any change, or just be a friend
And then leave them in God’s hand
Return to a place of joy and “release” them, accepting that you have done all you can do
Now the responsibility is no longer yours to carry
Continue with thanking Him through prayer for the answers while releasing them to God
Simply “be there” with Love
It is a hard lesson, that we cannot love someone enough to make them want to change
Or to love themselves enough to embrace what we have to “give” them through any means
It then becomes between them and God
Sometimes we are the one who plants the seed
Sometimes we are the one that gives the plant the water it needs
Or the food and nutrients to help it grow
But seldom are we a part of the entire process.
We play our part and let others be free to contribute their part
And leave the rest between them and God.
